Bright and early, the VS Wushu team woke up for breakfast despite having only completing their check-in at 1am yesterday.

We began by having our buffet breakfast, Chinese style in our hotel.

We can see the boys eagerly digging in to their breakfast here:

After that, we began with our reflection session with the boys.
During this entire trip the boys will be maintaining a learning log so that they can reflect upon their trip and make this a meaningful learning experience.
Today, we began by laying some groud rules for behaviour and expectations as well as some sharing on our first impressions and sights in Beijing.

VS Wushu Team: Beijing Training Trip (Day 1)

Today the VS Wushu Team left for Beijing on the start of our intensive training in Beijing.

Although there were some last minute hiccups at the airport, with the help and assistance of our ever supportive parents, we managed to retrieved passports that were mixed up, clear customs with our load of wushu weapons- I even got fed McDonalds by a caring parents while waiting for the tedious process of customs to clear.

And just when we thought everything was ok, we discovered a pair of scissors in one of the boys hand carry luggage. Somemore Hello Kitty scissors
I think the customs officer also blur- not sure whether to laugh or scold us.
*faint*

But thereafter we boarded the plane without incident and we arrived at Beijing safely after a 5.5 hour flight. We were lucky to have a tail-wind behind us and touched down in their new airport. Temperature was a low of Zero degrees but I got the boys to put on their jackets already.
We can see them eagerly moving off to the bus here!

Tired but excited we move off towards our accomodations

Tommorrow we wake up bright and early and will update all with pictures of our hotel at International Plaza and the sports school facilities.
Good night!

VS Wushu Team CNY Performance @ SGH

Today the VS Wushu Team went down to Singapore General Hospital to celebrate the festive season and bring some Ox-picious cheer to the patients there.

We were there early and had the chance to wish some of the patients a Happy Chinese New Year!

This was followed by our Lion Dance and Wushu performance:

Throughout the world and all across society, many have predicted that this will be a tough year. But it is especially in times like these that we have to stand by some of the principles laid down in our Victorian Code of Honor:
Be Kind, Be Grateful and Be Engaged

Learning wushu is not just about learning how to fight your opponent; it is about learning how to live you life- with meaning, care and integrity.

The VS Wushu Team has been blessed to receive support from so many parents, VWOs and kind, well-wishers. Boys, this is our time to give back and give of ourselves.
Only when we can achieve that, can we say that we have achieved something in our practice of the martial arts.
